Remodelling of the joint Porthmadog station (nprn 41441) of the Ffestiniog Railway (nprn 34660) and Welsh Highland Railway (nprn 91420) required a new signal box to control the layout and signalling. Built in 2013 to a traditional design, one-and-a-half storeys, with horizontal weatherboarding and under a pitched slated roof, the new box was commissioned and operational by 21 March 2014. It houses a 12 lever Westinghouse Style L frame, which originally came from Darlington Signal Box. There is a separate relay room nearby.
