The village of Hengoed is situated on the western side of the Rhymney valley, and it over looks the village of Maesycwmmer on the other side (NPRN 423139). It is about four and a half miles north of Caerphilly. The village has numerous facilities including a railway station; primary school; child care centre; community centre; children's park; newsagents; post office; "Hengoed Stores"; computer shop; hairdressers; upholsterers and The Junction Inn. The community was served by three chapels - 'Hengoed Chapel' (NRPN 11534); Tabernacle English Baptist Chapel (NPRN 9584) and Hengoed Welsh Baptist Chapel (NPRN 14390).
