The 1st edition of the historic 25-inch O. S. maps, published in 1889, depicts a woollen mill at this location. A small stream was dammed to form a reservoir, Llyn Pen-yr-allt, at SH 5820161295. Lower downstream, a 145 metre-long leat delivered water to the mill. by 1900, the date of the 2nd edition map, the mill had been converted to cottages, Factory Cottages.
