Description
Y Gors or New Cross in English, is a small settlement situated four miles south east of Aberystwyth. There are very few houses in the village, but they are served by a garage, a public house called the New Cross Inn and Horeb Calvinistic Methodist chapel (NPRN 7263). Although very few people live there now, there is an iron-age hill fort on the south western edge of the village (NPRN 303573). Both Horeb chapel and New Cross Inn appear on the first editions of the 6inch OS maps, published in 1891, in addition to a quarry (marked as disused on modern OS maps). There are also several farms noted on the 6inch map which are also recorded on modern maps. These include Bwlch Geuffordd (NPRN 5213); Blaen-Hwylog; Pant-y-Carne and Ffosyfuwch.
