Description

The new Tabernacl Independent chapel was opened on the 6 May 1989. The original Tabernacl in Aberdare Street (NPRN 11815) was sold to developers in 1986, and the congregation had spent three years worshipping in the Tabernacl Hall while building work progressed.

The chapel is built of brick in a modernist style. The interior has a Scandinavian style with pine boarded pitched ceiling and a line of roof lights just above the eaves. To the rear of the hall is a raked set of pews which were kept from the previous building, together with a section of the cast iron gallery front. The pulpit panels are also retained from Aberdare Street, and the original ceiling rose is now placed in the large entrance hall.
