Tirherbert Colliery was opened in 1914 by D.R. Llewellyn & Sons. From 1930 it was operated by WAC Ltd, until nationalisation in 1947. The NCB operated it until closure in 1958. The colliery comprised 4 drifts, including a fan drift (nprn 507624), drift entrance (nprn 507632), engine base (nprn 507631), trackway (nprn 507635) and spoil tips (nprn 507629, 507630 507634).
