Event and Historical Information:
The OLIVIA was a wooden schooner built at Potmagouch, Nova Scotia, in 1836. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 131 tons burthen; 68.8ft lengthx 19.1ft breadth x 7.8ft depth in hold; Schooner rigged with a standing bowsprit, square sterned, carvel built, a woman figurehead. At time of loss, the schooner was onwed by John Roberts of Pwllheli (36 shares), nephew of the late William Jones, shipbuilder of Pwllhelli; Margaret Griffith of Nevin, widow (2 shares); David Davies of Nevin, mariner (4 shares); Richard Davies of Nevin, mariner (6 shares); Hugh Davies senior of Nevin, mariner (12 shares); and Hugh Davies junior of Nevin, mariner (4 shares). The schooner's Port of Pwllheli Shipoing Reguster entry is closed with the annotation 'Stranded and lost on Aberarch Beach January 1853'.
