Event and Historical Information:
The MARTHA was a wooden schooner built and launched by Richard Jones at Portillaen on 19 May 1848. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 49.28 tons burthen; 50.5ft length x 14,5ft breadth x 8.9ft depth in hold; schooner rigged with a standing bowsprit, square sterned, carvel built, a woman figure head, frame and planking wood. The first owner was Rev John Parry Jones Parry of Carnarvon, clerk. A year later, Rev Parry had entered into a mortgage agreement with John Jones of Pendol, Portillaen, mariner, to facilitate the sale of the shares to Jones. The schooner's Port of Carnarvon Register entry is closed with the annotation 'Vessel became a wreck at Pistyll 17 September 1875'.
