Description
This is one of a series of small coal levels along the lower slopes of Mynydd Maesteg, above Evanstown and the Dyfolog valley. It first appears on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map of 1879, and is labelled as an 'Old Level (Coal)'. The hollow where the level entered the hill is still visible, as is the small spoil tip downslope, although their relationship has been interrupted somewhat by the construction of a stone garden wall around the adjacent Brynmawr house in the late 19th century. The area of the working, including its level entrance and tips is about 37 metres north to south by 9 metres. J.J. Hall, Trysor, 10 March 2011
