Gwendraeth Grammar School, a predominately Welsh language speaking school, opened in Hebron Chapel in Drefach in 1925 and moved to new purpose-built building two years later. Ysgol Y Gwendraeth closed in 2013 when it amalgamated with Ysgol Maes Yr Yrfa and moved into new purpose-built Ysgol Maes Y Gwendraeth. The former Ysgol Y Gwendraeth site at Drefach is currently partly occupied by community groups and some operational elements of the Council’s services, whilst other areas are vacant pending the review of our future Education needs in the area.
