Maentwrog Uchaf Calvinistic Methodist Chapel possibly replaced an earlier chapel (NPRN 406873) that appears to have been out of use by c.1875 (OS 1/2500 Map). If this is the case, then the date of build of 1810 probably applies to this earlier building and the present chapel dates either from a recorded enlargement in 1864 or a rebuilding in 1879. The present chapel dates from a rebuild in 1895, in the Simple Round-Headed style with a gable-entry plan.
