Description
a.
The field surrounding the site of Capel Aeddan (85082) is covered with apparently man made banks, ditches, level platforms and hollows. The O.S. field investigator has suggested that this may be the site of a deserted medieval village (SO 30 NE 57). The most obvious feature on the site is an irregular field bank which is marked on the 1842 Tithe Map. However offsets from this bank which is between 0.2 and 0.3m high are not shown. The most likely explanation for this twisting bank is that it originally ran through smaller fields and paddocks. In addition the area is crossed by 4 paths one of which is now the main entrance to Chapel Farm. An earlier O.S. investigator has suggested that the original Clytha Manor may have been located in this area (SO 30 NE 6).
