Salem Methodist Chapel was first built in 1782, modified in 1823 and again in 1832. The chapel was then rebuilt in 1870 to the design of architect John Humphreys of Treforest, further modified in1880 and a chapel house added in 1898. Salem was rebuilt for a final time in 1905, by architect William Williams of Swansea, in the Romanesque style of the gable entry type.
