Description
A memorial erected in October 1933 to Richard Trevithick, inventor and builder of the first steam railway locomotive which ran from here along the Merthyr Tramroad (nprn 91513) to the terminus at Abercynon (ST 0846 9493) on 21 February 1804. The inscription on the front of the memorial reads:

RICHARD TREVITHICK 1771-1833 PIONEER OF HIGH PRESSURE STEAM BUILT THE FIRST STEAM LOCOMOTIVE TO RUN ON RAILS. ON FEBRUARY 21ST 1804 IT TRAVERSED THE SPOT ON WHICH THIS MONUMENT STANDS ON ITS WAY TO ABERCYNON

A commemorative plaque (nprn 400379) has been erected in Abercynon at the southern end of the Merthyr Tramroad.
