Description
Canal dock, measuring about 80m by 8m, on the east side of the Glamorganshire Canal (nprn 34425). The dock was served by a number of tramways and railways, linking to several local sites, principally Pentrebach Ironworks (nprn 91544) but also Upper Abercanaid coal pit and several smaller and un-named coal workings. A cast-iron bridge carried the canal towing path over the dock entrance, and cast centrally under (each?) handrail was "A. HILL, PLYMOUTH. 1849."
The bridge had been removed by March 1979 and only the curved entrance walls to the dock were visible.
Site visited B.A.Malaws, RCAHMW, 13 March 1979.
