Description
NAR SH58SW5

A later Prehistoric style settlement enclosure set upon the summit of a plateau, thought to have been occupied into the early medieval period.
This is a roughly oval walled enclosure, in the region of 38-43m across. The drystone enclosure wall is up to 3.0m wide. There was at least one simple entrance gap or gateway. There were two stone founded roundhouses, at the east and west ends of the enclosure. The eastern roudhouse, joined to the enclosure wall, was 13m in diameter (9.5m internally) and had at least two smaller rectangular chambers attached. The smaller western roundhouse appears to have been rebuilt, but may originally have been about 7.8m in diameter internally.
Finds included a fifth or sixth century silver pennanular brooch.
