Description
A strongly walled fort which crowns a hill at the east end of a long ridge descending from the Carneddau towards the Conway Valley: the defences are defined by three ramparts almost certainly incorporating the work of several periods. The entrance lies at the W end of the fort, at the point of easiest approach. Outside the outer rampart on the S and W are two areas set with pointed stones to form a chevaux-de-frise, local rocks 0.3m to 0.9m long but mainly the shorter lengths. Inside and between the ramparts are 20 huts in one of which excavation revealed evidence for iron working.
