Description
The Penmaen Burrows site is presumed to be a deserted medieval settlement concealed beneath the dunes around the exposed remains of St Mary's church or chapel, where foundations of buildings have been noted. The site is thought to have become besanded before 1320 and any settlement may have been associated with the castle that was finally destroyed in the early thirteenth century.

A pillow mound, situated to the west towards the castle, is thought to represent a later period of landuse, when the Burrows became a rabbit warren.
