DescriptionA council workmen's trench to treat subsidence of the road surface: It revealed a fragmentary mortared wall face retaining rubble and mortar fragments, seemingly dumped behind it. The nature of the mortar of the dumped material suggests it may have come from castle ruins, but it contained a post medieval (18th-early 19th century) glazed sherd. It is very possible this revetment represents the sea wall joining the `pier' as shown on Coulings `Map of Town' in 1809.
