Lewis Morris' early chart for Milford shows an anchorage at this location. The placename 'pool' shown on OS 1st edtion 25in mapping confirms an anchorage for vessels waiting to enter the Cresswell or Carew Rivers. The present day small craft moorings extend eastward past Lawrenny quay.
