Description
This fish trap is part of a complex located on and between Salmon and Pastoun Scars (see NPRN 401681). This fish trap and NPRN 519274 may be sections of the same fish trap, and are both located on the far northeast side of Salmon Scar. This fish trap is hook-shaped and consists of two sections. The first is a 55m C-shaped dry stone wall situated mainly on top of the scar, which changes to a post line where the scar finishes. This post line terminates at the cod-end or sluice. The second section begins at the sluice and extends along the same east-north-easterly orientation as the end the first section. It then changes direction, extending southeast in a straight line for approximately 50m.

Event and Historical Information:
This fish trap, known as 'Polyon Ifan', was constructed by the Phillips/Davies family in the 1900s, and is said to have been a failure, which would have led to its subsequent abandonment. The trap was recorded during a number of visits by RCAHMW staff from 1980-2003.
