Description
Priory Street Welsh Independent Chapel was built in 1875-6 to the design of George Morgan of Carmarthen in the Romanesque style with gable entry plan. It was further renovated in 1933, when a new pipe organ by Leonard Crabb was installed. The chapel is in rock-faced sandstone with Bath stone detail and alternating voussoirs of rock-faced grey limestone to openings, below a slate roof, with lead glazing throughout. It is entered via a pair of panelled timber doors beneath an ashlar tympanum with 'Prior Congregational Chapel' incised beneath the arch. Within the chapel is a three-sided raked gallery with wide curved angles and Gothic trefoils.
