This collection comprises the research archive, as it relates to Wales, of William Francis Grimes: Welsh archaeologist, Director of the Museum of London and the Institute of Archaeology; and a former Chairman of the RCAHMW. Professor Grimes published two influential volumes on the prehistory of Wales, with a particular focus on the Neolithic period. During the 1950s and 60s he carried out dozens of excavations in the city of London : his most famous discovery being that of the Mithraeum Roman Temple at Walbrook, London, in 1954.
