Description
Watercolour illustration, captioned "This drawing suggests how the head of the main line at Trevor might have looked in 1840. The two basins are busy with boats taking away coal, bricks and iron products and bringing limestone and general trade. Roads and horse-worked tramroads connect the canal to the surrounding area. Buildings around the wharves include the boatyard opposite the junction with the Llangollen branch, a warehouse, houses for canal workers and Scotch Hall. The pier on the right extends the space for loading, as does a narrow dock next to it, the width of a single boat." Illustration by Phil Kenning for the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales and the Canal and River Trust in preparation for the publication of "Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site" by Peter Wakelin (2015). Image is reproduced on pages 112-113 of the publication (in Welsh and English).
