The surviving fragment of what is thought to have been a comprehensive civil war defence system for the town. One bastion and a length of curtain remain, another bastion was recorded in 1938.

The surviving part, known as 'The Bulwarks' is in the west of the town, in the angle of Lammas Street and Morfa Lane.
