Description

Severn Road Independent Chapel was built in 1868, to the design of Thomas Thomas of Landore. It is built in the Simple Gothic style, with a gable entry plan. This chapel closed in 1980 and in 1995 was converted into a mosque.

Severn Road Independent Chapel was built in 1868, to the design of Thomas Thomas of Landore. It is built in the Simple Gothic style, with a gable entry plan. This chapel closed in 1980 and in 1995 was converted into a mosque. Central Office of Information photographs (now in the NMRW) show prayer and teaching in the mosque and associated madrasa (Madrasa Talim-Ul-Quran). Externally the chapel remains little changed; one window has Arabic calligraphy. External signage in Arabic and English: 'Bilal Mosque'; gateway with 'Bilal Mosque' in arch with finial of crescent moon. Capacity 500 according to the online Mosque Directory.
