Description
This property appears to have been building on a greenfield site in what was to be a modest trapezoidal enclosure during the compilation of the First Edition OS 25-inch map, for a road is shown as far as the bend immediately to the south of the house side. Between c1890 and the Second Edition of 1906, a house (presumably an Edwardian Villa) appears on the site, the track becomes a carriage drive with avenue, and the property is completed by a Sun Dial and well. These and more trees apart, there are otherwise few obvious garden features. There is what might be a stable and carriage shed immediately to the N of the house; and a triangular enclosure beyond that might have served as a kitchen garden, possibly with two small glass houses or frames, though definition is not clear in depiction. The placename alone betrays that the the site clearly enjoys its valley and riverward setting.
