Description
St. Cynyw's Church dates to the latter half of the fifteenth century, built on what appears to be an early medieval site; the site may at one time have been dedicated to All Saints, but is now dedicated to the sixth century St. Cynyw. This church was fortunate to escape substantial Victorian restoration, and has maintained some notable original features, including the timber framed porch with massive scantlings, cobbled floor, and side benches. The church interior boasts original plastered barrel-ceiling, octagonal font and perpendicular windows; most significant of all, however, is the largely intact original rood screen, though the rood loft was removed during the nineteenth century.
The white-washed, rendered stonework church has a continuous nave and chancel, with a west porch, together with the Victorian additions of a bellcote and north vestry. During the nineteenth century alterations a step was added to demarcate the nave and chancel.
The sundial in the churchyard, with the inscription `Sunny Tyme Only?, bears the date 1616.
