DescriptionSt Matthew's church was located on the north-west side of Tre-York Street on a site now occupied by St Matthew's Bungalow.
According to Kelly's Directory (1901): 'The church is a building of stone in the Doric style, erected in 1842, and consists of chancel and nave and a tower at east end containing 6 bells: there are 750 sittings. The register dates from the year 1843.' There also appears, from early Ordnance Survey maps, to have been a porch on the west gable wall. The church was aligned north-east by south-west.
The building was demolished in the 1970s.
