Description
Bethesda Baptist Chapel was first built in 1742, enlarged in 1795 and then rebuilt in 1843 and 1900. The 1900 chapel was built in the Simple Round-Headed style with rendered elevations and openings on two levels. The interior had pews of 1900 with the bow-fronted cast-iron gallery fronts usual at that date. A probable platform pulpit had been replaced by a carpetted platform when photographed. The ceiling had side arches curving up to a central flat wooden-boarded ceiling with centre roses which once held chandeliers, probably gas-lit. The roof had prominent iron ventilators. A single-storey Sunday School block stands to the right. During the 1990's a new octagonal brick-built chapel with annexes, porch and car-park was constructed.
