Description

St John's church is located on the north side of Castle Street, on the hillside above the houses. It was built in Perpendicular style to designs of E.M.Bruce Vaughan in 1905, on the site of an old church. It is constructed of rock-faced Pennant sandstone with Forest ashlar. The church comprises nave and lower chancel, bellcote above west gable, north aisle and transept, and south gabled porch. Inside, the arcade piers are octagonal and the arches four-centred. Fittings include an octagonal, medieval, font. Stained glass includes works by Jones & Willis (1909) and Newbery (1906 & 1916).
