DescriptionSalem Methodist Chapel was built in 1775 and renovated/enlarged in 1830 by builders T.Nicholas of Llanfarthin and D.Howell of Bryncwttyn. The chapel was rebuilt again in 1866 on a slightly different site than the 1775 chapel, and modified in 1888 by architect William Jones of Pentre Ystrad, Rhondda and builder Edmund Rees of Llanfarthin. The present chapel, dated 1866, is built in the Simple Classical and Round-Headed style with two storeys, a gable entry plan and a 3-bay gable facade. The organ was added during the 1930's. This chapel is now Grade 2 Listed as an imposing late ninetenth century chapel of character and style, strongly associated with the origins and development of Pencoed.
