DescriptionSt Andrew's church is located at the far end of Church Street, a cul-de-sac, above the Rhondda Fawr river. It was built in 1876-7 to designs of architect W.D.Blessley of Cardiff; the chancel by E.M.Bruce Vaughan was added in 1886-7. The south aisle dates from 1904. The church is built in Early English style, with geometric tracery, and is constructed of rock-faced local sandstone with a touch of polychromy in the window voussoirs. The plan is cruciform but without a tower, and includes a gabled porch on its west gable below a single bellcote.
Stained glass includes work by R.J.Newbery (1904).
The church was largely paid for by Archibald Hood, owner of the Llwynypia Colliery.
