St Joseph'e is located at the end of St Joseph's Terrace which lies on the southern edge of a cluster of streets virtually unbroken for two miles along the Aman valley. The church was built in Early English style in 1889-90 to designs of E.M.Bruce Vaughan, architect, of Cardiff, and is constructed of rock-faced sandstone with Bath stone dressings. It comprises nave and lower chancel, north-west porch and south-east vestry. Cross-gabled aisles were added in 1916-17 by James J.Jenkins of Porth. Stained glass in the west window is dated to 1914.
Restoration work was carried out in 2007 and included the addition of solar panels.
