Description
Described by Smith and Jones as a `false long-house with a byre replaced by a barn, Pen-y-Bont Uchaf is situated to the east of the Llanwrtyd to Abergwesyn minor road and the Afon Irfon in the Irfon Forest 3km south of Abergwesyn. It is a two storey building, where the byre has apparently been re-built as a barn, with two wide barn doors instead of the small doors at the ends of a cross-passage. It presents a long-house type of plan, with a chimney stack backing onto the space between the wide doors. The plan now comprises a hall (kitchen) divided by cross-passages from the parlour and dairy. The part of the house with the hall and pantry may date from the early 17th century, with the rest of the house being 18th and 19th century.
