Description
Hotel comprising an early to mid eighteenth century main block with an early nineteenth century facade, and two rear wings. The south-east wing is a much altered seventeenth century structure and the larger south-west wing holds an early to mid ninteenth century assembly room, now the ballroom. Adjoining this is an L-plan nineteenth century range set about the rear yard.
The main block shows a three storey, seven bay facade to the Bulwark. This is rendered above a plinth, with a first floor band, qiouns and a cornice above which there is a row of blind widows. The roof is slate. The doorway is centrally placed with a late nineteenth century porch. In the western bay is an arch leading to the yard. The interior retains much eighteenth century detail.
The three storey south-east wing has some seventeenth century details, including chamfered beams. It is separated from the main block by a single storey section.
The assembly room wing has three storeys, showing a two-window gable end to Glamorgan Street. The adjoining yard ranges are of two storeys, with rubble walls and a stone slate roof.
