Description
Castle House (NPRN 17184) is a grand eighteenth & early nineteenth century town house. It faces west across a narrow paved forecourt enclosed by a low rubble wall topped by iron railings. At the north end paired decorative ironwork gates hung from trellisework iron gate piers gave access to Market Street. To the south the wall curved around to block access to the castle gate (NPRN 309113).
The gates and gate piers are probably contemporary with the Regency remodelling of the house in about 1810.
