Description
In the nineteenth century this became the main entrance to the Edwinsford grounds (NPRN 266173).
The lodge itself is dated 1861, whilst the gatepiers are earlier nineteenth century. Two piers flank the central gate and two more stand at each end of railed dwarf walls. All are of rusticated sandstone. The inner pair originally had pineapple finials, now replaced with concrete lions, the outer had balls, one of which remains. The later gates are of simpe wrought iron work with spearhead finials.
Opposite the gates stands a remarkable pair of estate cottages built to mimick the earliest part of the mansion (NPRN 17452). This may have acted as a lodge before 1861.
The gates ensemble is listed.
