DescriptionThe house at Gelli Uchaf Farmstead (NPRN 128118) consists of a long east-facing north-south range. The earliest part is a small eighteenth century single storey lofted house and this has a similar byre added on the south, giving a longhouse type plan. A mid nineteenth century single bay two storey wing has been added on the north, giving the building as a whole a rather incongruous appearance. The walls are of stone rubble throughout with a plinth on the east side and were formerly whitened or rendered. The building has slate gabled roofs.
In 1994 the early house retained a wicker hood to the large fireplace at the byre gable end. The windows were nineteenth century, but have been replaced. A stair led up to the loft or attic, which was lit by small windows set below the eaves. The byre had a doorway at the upper end leading into a feeding passage, and further doorways in the south gable. It is similar in detail to the house, but they are separated by a straight joint visible in the rear wall.
The two storey north extension presents a single bay late Georgian facade, with a camber headed sash window on either floor and a similar doorway with an overlight. Its roof was originally framed by chimney stacks.
The farmyard to the south is framed by nineteenth century farmbuildings (NPRN 54118-9).
