DescriptionA mid eighteenth century town house. It was altered to accommodate the post office (?in the late nineteenth century) and more recently as a bank branch.
This is an L-plan three storey house. The main range faces Church Street where it presents a roughcast three bay facade, originally symmetrical, under a slate gabled roof framed by end chimney stacks. The centre, between the outer bay windows, is slightly advanced. The central doorway originally had a wooden doorcase with pilasters supporting a ledge hood. Above the doorway is a plaque reading
'This house was built by William Powell 1766'.
The doorway is flanked by inserted twentieth century small triangular bay windows. The Post Office in the southern bay has a smaller doorway and window replacing the original window.
The full height rear gabled wing houses the original staircase. A lower range is inset between the two ranges.
On the north side is a cambered headed vehical entry passage with a loft above. At the rear is a yard, depicted on the 1st edition OS County series (Carmarthen. XXVI.5 1887) with an anciliary range beyond. Behind this is a long garden plot.
