Ornamental wrought iron gates guard the entrance to what was once the north-east drive in the grounds of Furnace Lodge (NPRN 266187), now Milestone (see NPRN 17572). The gates are probably contemporary with the house, said to have been built in 1801. Now hung from stone piers, it is likely that the gates were originally supported by iron posts, similar to those that once stood at the entrance to the south-west drive (NPRN 17574).
