Description
An extent of 1296 refers to a grange of 'Blayth Tulleys' which, amongst others, 'are destroyed by war....' Very little is known about these granges which, given their locations in the Neath valley area, probably all belonged to Neath Abbey. It seems unlikely that they were ever re-occupied. Even their precise locations are uncertain. 'Blayth Tulleys' is taken to be Blaendulais, in the far north of the county near Onllwyn. The only mountain farms here surviving into recent times, either of which may have been the focus of the grange, are Rhyd-y-pyllau (SS83320988, now gone) and Blaen-nantmelyn (SS83250940).
