Description
In 1903 a reinforced concrete warehouse was built for the Western Counties Agricultural Co-operative Society on Pothouse Wharf in Carmarthen, using techniques devised by Francois Hennebique, the French engineer. The four-storey building measured 28m long, 8.5m wide and stood 14m high; there was a pair of lucams projecting 3m over the river at the south end. Apparently very well built and in good structural condition, it was demolished in August 1979. The warehouse was the second oldest reinforced concrete building in Wales after Weaver's Flour Mill (nprn 33322) in Swansea; it too has been demolished.
