Description
Grove Place is a mid-late 18th century, brick-built, slate-roofed, 3 storey town house of 3 bays, which retains an attractive facade. This consists of a sandstone plinth, sandstone chamfered quoins to corners and Venetian windows to the ground floor and Diocletian windows to the second-floor, flanking a central porch entry with an additional narrow bay to right. Formerly a house of status, it became the Denbigh Police Station c.1930 until 2001, when it was moved to new premises on Graig Road. Grove Place is now being refurbished with the intention of using it to provide eco-friendly holiday accommodation, aided by the Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI). The plan has a central-entry, lobby and stair with a room to each side, being of double pile to right with back-to-back chimney between dining-room and rear kitchen. A reception room to left with rear end-chimney, has a projecting, 2-storey, rear-wing, housing the former kitchen and services area (later prison cells at ground-floor).
