Description
Town hall built 1911-12 by F A Roberts of Mold, and the gift of Mr P E Roberts of Bromfield Hall. Edwardian Baroque.

It is a 2 storey building built in the Edwardian Baroque style, with a 5 bay symmetrical front, which has a cupola to the advanced central entrance bay. It is constructed of red brick with limestone to the rock face plinth. It has a steep, u-shaped hipped slate roof, with bargeboarded gables over a returned entablature to the rear. There are three chimneys, the forward pair corbelled out, and theyy ahve panelled stacks, necking bands, and bracketed cornices. There is a moulded architrave, pulvinated frieze and bracketed cornice to the entablature, and above, a balustraded parapet.

The cupola has aedicules, keystone arches,impost blocks, balustraded balconies and festooned amphorae to the corners. It is surmounted by an octagonal ribbed dome with pine cone finial and hollow chamfered corners with festooned urns to the base. Swagged strapwork cartouche with dragon motif to front.

The 1st floor is of brick, with channelled freestone end pilasters. Round arched, keystoned windows have lugged architraves and aprons. There is a segmental pediment to the centre bay, with channelled end pilasters flanking ionic columns in the antis. There is a round arched, keystoned and lugged doorway with a semicircular balustraded balcony , and a string course.

The ground floor is of chanelled freestone, with 6 cambered, small paned cross windows with keystones and sills on brackets. There is an open pediment with Gibbsian treatment to pilasters, a round arched doorway with a keystone and iron gates.

The side elevations have 1st floor windows as the front, a string course, and an entablature as front but with the balustrade only returning for 1 bay. There are 12 pane sashes with keystones to the cambered brick voussoirs on the ground floor. A flat roofed centre bay to rear with lead cames to round arched stair window.

The first floor retains contemporary interiors. On the ground floor is a panelled entrance with half-glazed inner doors and a screen. There are broad keystoned arches with panelled soffits to the hallway and a brass gaslight on the newel post of the iron balustraded staircase.
