DescriptionAber-bran Bridge is a well-built bridge of stone ashlar, set immediately up-stream of the confluence of the Usk and the Bran. It has 3 spans, the central one being slightly larger than the flanking ones, with a total span of approximately 27m. There is a continuation to the north-west, which may be the remains of an earlier bridge. The angular cut-waters are continued upwards in the form of pilasters, which on the up-stream side are formed into refuge-seats, and these features have been cut into the opposite side at a later date. The up-stream parapet has a tablet inscribed with the date 1791 and the builder's name James Parry (who also designed the Wye bridge at Builth Wells [NPRN 43066]), though the earlier bridge may date from the 17th century. On the outer face, a water main is carried on brackets. The bridge carries a minor road from the A40 to Trallong and Aberyscir.
