Description
This is an elegant late eighteenth century bridge over the Cothi within the grounds of Edwinsford (NPRN 249; 266173).
The bridge has a single long elliptical span with dressed stone voussoirs and a low plain stone rubble parapet rising to a central point. It carries a datestone of 1783. A half pedestal bearing arms of about 1700 has been built into the south end of the eastern parapet. This may be the base of a Queen Anne sundial now in Carmarthen Museum.
The bridge replaced an earlier structure depicted on an engraving of 1776. This had two segmental spans with prominent voussoirs, separated by triangular cutwaters.
