This record comprises a documentary reference to a shipping casualty which has been assigned to the maritime named location HOLYHEAD BAY pending more information which may allow a more precise location for the loss to be assigned. ( the vessel was raised after foundering).

Event and Historical Information:
The RESISTANCE was armoured frigate built by Westwood & Bailie at Milwall and launched on 11 April 1861. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 3710 builders measure tonnage, 6070 displacement tons, 280ft length x 51ft 6-7in breadth, 10 x 68pounder guns, 2 x 32 pounder guns. The frigate became a target in 1885 and was sold out of service on 11 November 1898 for scrapping. It foundered in Holyhead Bay on 4 March 1899, but was raised and taken to Garston to be broken up.
