Description
Archaeological remains associated with this loss are not confirmed as present at this location, however they may possibly be in the vicinity.

Event and Historical Information:
On 26 December 1557, a French crayer was driven onshore at Oxwich Point with a cargo of figs, raisins, almonds and wool. The ship's crew were taken prisoner and the Lord of the Manor, Edward Mansel, organised local people to salvage the cargo. The Earl of Worcester, Sir George Herbert, sent troops to seize the goods for the Crown and in the fight that followed outside Oxwich Castle, the aunt of Edward Mansel was injured and died soon after. The matter was referred to the Star Chamber by Edward Mansel's father, Sir Rice. As a result Sir George Herbert was ordered to the fleet until he had paid a fine and returned the apprehended goods to the Mansel family.
