Although not precisely located on the seabed, the remains of this aircraft are designated as a Controlled Site under the Protection of Military Remains Act 1986.

The Protection of Military Remains Act 1986 makes it an offence to interfere with the wreckage of any crashed, sunken or stranded military aircraft without a licence. Event and Historical Information:
On 26 June 1942, a Beaufighter flown by Pilot Officer Day and Sergeant Mitchell from 456 Squadron operating from RAF Valley were scrambled to intercepted a lone Ju88 30 miles west of Bardsey. In the engagement, the Beaufighter's port engine was damaged and a severed fuel line caused he cockpit to fill with petrol. The pilot ditched the plane which sank after 5 minutes. The crew were rescued from their dinghy 90 minutes later.
